EU – DSA

The European Union Digital Services Act (DSA), according to the ADF International, will give the EU authority, permission to target lawful expression, and consequently ‘threaten free speech’. It then goes on to argue that it literally ‘undermines the very democratic principles it claims to protect’. The legislation is ‘vague and imprecise’, which it says ‘incentivises a system where the harshest of censorship laws become the global standard’ (EU-DSA, p.18)

Not many people are fully aware of the implication of laws passed at EU level, and it is only when citizens realise that ‘something is wrong’, and see how powerless they are to react, that they then realise it is too late! This report is very timely for every European citizen to take on board, especially as many of the freedoms under threat were previously won through costly effort by many of their fellow citizens over the generations. Hopefully, this report will alert Europeans to the surreptitious nature of this law and give them time to respond.
